Haryana govt forms separate body to manage state gurdwaras

Hindustan Times (Gurgaon)

THE SIKH COMMUNITY HAVE CRITICIZED THE MOVE TERMING IT AS A POLITICAL STUNT OF THE CONGRESS GOVERNMENT

GURGAON: Before the state assembly election, the ruling Congress government has played its trump card to lure Sikh votes.

Separate from the Amritsar based Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, which is an apex body of the Gurdwara administration, the Haryana government has formed a Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee for Haryana, which will take care of all 52 Gurdwaras of the state.

“This is an attempt to lure nearly 17 lakh Sikh votes,’ said a critique.

With enactment of the new law in Haryana, the SGPC, which is apex body of the Gurdwaras with its 180 strength, will lose its control on the 52 Gurdwaras located across Haryana. The state currently has 11 representatives in the SGPC.

Until now, the Sikh Gurudwaras in the state were being managed the SGPC which is a statutory body constituted by the Sikh Gurudwara Act in 1925. However the Sikh community have criticized the move terming it as just another political stunt of the Congress government.

“The Congress government did not do anything in the past 48 years for separating the Haryana Gurdwara administration from Punjab. Why did it all of a sudden wake up? The Congress lost the last Lok Sabha election badly and wants to retain the Sikh community in the state. I think it will not be a big advantage for the ruling government,” said Professor Nirmal Singh, a Delhi based independent management consultant.

The Sikh community members have welcomed the step and have expedited their demand for compensation for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims for which they have been waiting for the past 30 years,

“We wanted for long to get rid of the SGPC. Ever since the states like Punjab and Haryana were separated and became separate states in 1966, the separation of Gurdwara administration should also been done. But we are happy now and we hope the new law will bring in some important changes in the maintenance of these Gurdwaras,” said JP Singh senior vice president Singh Sabha, Gurgaon, adding that now the demands of 1984 riot victims remain to be addressed.

1984 Sikh Riots – Wake up Administration

In 1984 The Prime Minister was dead but the administration was not

350, Sikh families of GURGAON (HARYANA) that bore the brunt have yet to be compensated after 30 years.

Wake up Administration you are paying 50,000 compensation on the death of an animal.

What About SIKH family losses in 1984.

For co-existence spread the message of LOVE, PEACE and HARMONY. This is the only way to progress. Big brothers we know you have CONCERN for US. Show it through YOUR ACTIONS.
